Fairway Wood Fitting

A well-fit fairway wood needs to perform in two very different situations — off a tee and off the turf. Getting both right requires checking sole design and CG placement against your specific attack angle, not just picking whatever looks fastest on a launch monitor number.

Turf Interaction

Sole Design Matters More Than Marketing

A shallow sole with a rounded leading edge glides through turf on a sweeping attack angle, while a slightly deeper face can help players with a steeper attack angle compress the ball more efficiently off the deck. We test your actual attack angle against several sole profiles rather than assuming one design fits everyone.

Off the tee, the same head needs to hold up on center strikes at driver-adjacent swing speeds without ballooning spin — a balance that shifts significantly between loft options.

Where a 3-Wood Ends and a 5-Wood Begins

Loft choice in fairway woods is a gapping decision relative to your driver and hybrids, not a standalone one.

13–15° (Strong 3-Wood)

Best for faster swing speeds who need a tee-shot option shorter than driver but still penetrating in flight.

15–17° (Standard 3-Wood)

The most common fairway wood loft range, versatile off the tee and from the fairway for a wide range of swing speeds.

18–21° (5-Wood)

Higher-launching option that's often easier to get airborne from the turf than a long iron or low-lofted hybrid.

Dial In Your Fairway Wood

Sessions run 45–60 minutes and test both tee and turf strikes across several head and shaft combinations.
